ABOUT ME

I grew up always being artistic in some way, whether it was coloring, painting, drawing, etc; I really enjoyed learning about art. Even though I have always been interested in taking photos, I didn’t start taking it seriously until I assisted in taking my cousin’s wedding photos and got into editing and graphic design, that I knew there was something there.

In 2005,  I started taking a certification course and really fell into it right away, I was in love! My husband supported me in the decision of wanting to be a photographer and assisted me in lugging all of my equipment around to photo shoots. Recently, I decided to jump into the exciting world of college and have begun to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts with Photography and Digital Imaging as my Concentration.

I am interested in different subjects including portraiture, landscapes, urban, florals , music, night photography, and much more. I feel that anyone can take a photo of these things, but it takes a lot of skill to take portraits. It’s a lot more difficult than sticking a subject somewhere and pointing a camera at them, but the challenge of photography is the part I thrive on.

Imogen Cunningham (famous photographer) said “The thing that’s fascinating about portraiture is that nobody is alike.” Not only is everyone unique, but they are constantly changing. Photography allows you to record each detail of a moment in someone’s life. That very moment can be gone in a flash! I am a photographer that wants to capture those moments and be able to provide people with the memories that they can cherish for years to come!

My promise to you, is that I will work with you and do whatever it takes to give you the photos you dream up. If you are interested in my photography services please feel free to contact me. I am always excited to meet and get to know new clients and would love to make your photo! I look forward to hearing from you!

MY ARTIST STATEMENT

Photography, I feel, is the way that I can truly express myself. Whether I am happy or sad I feel that my emotions are reflected in any given photograph that I may take. I mostly make photographs for myself and there is no particular subject that I tend to focus on.

Though I’ve had no real formal training in art prior to my first semester of college, an art gene does, in a way run in my family. My grandfather was always a big influence when it came to my photography and aside from my interest in it, he was my main drive and was somewhat of a mentor in the last few years of his life.

I have come to love simply being in the outdoors and am almost never without a camera, whether I am carrying a point and shoot or an SLR of some kind. The locations of my photographs range from remote wilderness areas to a more urban setting of corroding bridges and weathered doors.

Seeing and being aware of my surroundings is the underlying focus of my photography. I enjoy the challenge that photography holds and have learned that it’s mostly all about timing. I have found that photography can require a lot of planning and for this reason try to make sure the image in the viewfinder is what I am trying to achieve before clicking the shutter.

In addition, I have also learned that moving just a fraction of an inch can change composition in a drastic way so for this reason, one must be careful in planning a shot for things like composition, background, angle of view and exposure.

When I decided to go back to school, my first class assignment was called “The Alphabet Project.” We were told to go out and take photos of our surroundings that reminded us of letters of the alphabet. So far, it was one of my favorites because even though it became a challenge, it taught me to use an artist’s point of view and to really open my eyes and see the letters in nature that typically would otherwise go unnoticed.

Overall, I think that photography was always my thing, I just didn’t figure it out until later but I feel I am blessed to have an eye for it, to feel like I have to eat, sleep and breathe it, I know it’s my passion. I may have only just begun to get my feet wet but at the same time, I am very eager to dive into the world of photography everyday I live.
